HAPPY FEAST DAY ST. VALENTINE!

St. Valentine
At least three different Saint Valentines, all of them
martyrs, are mentioned in the early martyrologies under date of 14 February. One is described as a priest at Rome, another as bishop of Interamna (modern Terni), and these two seem both to have suffered in the second half of the third century and to have been buried on the Flaminian Way, but at different distances from the city. In William of Malmesbury's time what was known to the ancients as the Flaminian Gate of Rome and is now the Porta del Popolo, was called the Gate of St. Valentine. The name seems to have been taken from a small church dedicated to the saint which was in the immediate neighborhood. Of both these St. Valentines some sort of Acta are preserved but they are of relatively late date and of no historical value. Of the third Saint Valentine, who suffered in Africa with a number of companions, nothing further is known.
Saint Valentine's Day
The popular customs associated with Saint Valentine's Day undoubtedly had their origin in a conventional
belief generally received in England and France during the Middle Ages, that on 14 February, i.e. half way through the second month of the year, the birds began to pair. Thus in Chaucer's Parliament of Foules we read:
For this was sent on Seynt Valentyne's day Whan every foul cometh ther to choose his mate.
For this reason the day was looked upon as specially
consecrated to lovers and as a proper occasion for writing love letters and sending lovers' tokens. Both the French and English literatures of the fourteenth and fifteenth centuries contain allusions to the practice. Perhaps the earliest to be found is in the 34th and 35th Ballades of the bilingual poet, John Gower, written in French; but Lydgate and Clauvowe supply other examples. Those who chose each other under these circumstances seem to have been called by each other their Valentines. In the Paston Letters, Dame Elizabeth Brews writes thus about a match she hopes to make for her daughter (we modernize the spelling), addressing the favoured suitor:
And, cousin mine, upon Monday is Saint Valentine's Day and every bird chooses himself a mate, and if it like you to come on Thursday night, and make provision that you may abide till then, I trust to
God that ye shall speak to my husband and I shall pray that we may bring the matter to a conclusion.
Shortly after the young lady herself wrote a letter to the same man addressing it "Unto my rightwell beloved Valentine, John Paston Esquire". The custom of choosing and sending valentines has of late years fallen into comparative desuetude.

DON'T BE GREEDY!

IT IS DIFFICULT TO SAVE MONEY WHEN YOUR NEIGHBORS KEEP BUYING THINGS YOU CANNOT AFFORD. GREED CAN GET YOU WHAT YOU WANT, BUT ROB YOU OF WHAT YOU ALREADY HAVE!

Shakespeare said: " Those that much covet are with gain so fond... That what they have not, what which they possess...They scatter and unloose it from their bond, And so by hoping more they have but less."

You see that's the tragedy behind all greed. Our eyes long for more. Our heart beats faster, and some greedy person's whole life is consumed with the need to possess---such that he will never have peace unless he gets what he wants, no matter what method he uses in acquiring it---that's the words of Francis Kong.

From my points of view, Francis is right. Our eyes always long for more...the material things that we would like to have because our friends have it. The expensive foods that we eat---coz our co-employees ate those. Surely, we don't have contentment as human beings. In the Bible it says that contentment with Godliness is great gain. Greed destroys. The Bible never fades and it does not change its content. We should remember that heaven and earth will pass away, but the Word of God will never pass away. This season's of sharing, we should not be greedy. We should not receive only the gifts that we wanted but we should also give the things that the needy wanted. The needy long for more....more than our eyes...more than our taste buds...more than our body. So, let's share with them. Let us not be greedy with what we have and own. MERRY CHRISTMAS TO ALL!

CHOOSE YOUR FRIENDS...

JOHN PAUL RED
JOAN "ANJO" SANGALANG

I came home exhausted. Opened the laptop.Surfed the net.Browsed the friendster.com. Click the who's viewed me profile. Got 13 viewers. One of which is my closest college friend in University of the East, Manila. College of Dental Medicine. Botany class room 301. In all my ten (10) years of looking for her in the net and our common friends in college days, an innocent smile captured my memory.Yes! it was Joan Sangalang. My classmate in Dental Medicine course. I was happy...very happy... I added her in my friends list. I replied to her message. We exchanged yahoo messenger id. Then, the rest was history. I missed her for more than a decade. I missed her sweet smile. I missed her sweet sounding voice..."AYIEEEEEEEEE... BILI TAYO NG KIKIAM SA GILID NG SCHOOL AT SAKA GULAMAN! What a memory! I missed her dimples. Lastly, I missed her lifelong suitor, JOHN PAUL RED! How could I ever imagine that these two people closest to me would be known as sweethearts? The TOM AND JERRY partners...here comes the flowers. And now...here are the flowers...from her prince charming...straight and fresh from United States! sending flowers from USA to UAE? What a great sweetness from this man who eventually won the heart of my close friend ANJO (as what I call her---binaliktad ko ang joan) I am very happy for them.I am excited seeing them again next year. I am excited talking to them. Last night we had a long talk over the net. Kumustahan...I made some confessions. My tears fell down. This I sigh a bit...And cried. Then I go to bed---thinking of them and reminiscing the memories. I never regret I CHOOSE THEM AS MY FRIENDs.

PRACTICE SAFE SEX

THE BEST THING TO WEAR FOR SAFE SEX IS A WEDDING RING!

I just want to share a story about a conversation between a teenager and his grandfather.

One day, a conversation between a teenager and his grandfather was overheard, the young man said, Gee , grandpa, your generation didn't have all these diseases. You did not have Aids during your time. What did you wear to have safe sex?

The wise old gentleman replied, "A wedding ring."

Now, does that make sense or what?

Sex today is presented as a fulfillment of the animal lust inside every man and is hardly ever presented as a sacred bond of union inside the institution of marriage.

You don't even need to go to church or attend a service to hear your priest or pastor say this. Just watch the movies and all those television shows and you will see that sex has been degraded , and the young people of today are even more confused. Now, more than ever, we have to remind the young ones that sex is God's invention. It is to be a beautiful thing as long as it is kept within the bounds of marriage. It enhances the relationship of husband and wife and it is within God's design for all to follow.

Teach your kids too.

WHAT CAN I SAY ABOUT MYSELF...

Another page of my career book...

Meeting a person like me...

The initial encounter with me was nothing exceptional. What was subtly striking, however was how my childlike character brought to mind and to others. Even to this day, my presence sheds forth a certain freshness that is pictured in the Psalmist verse, "Thy youth are to keep thee as the dew". This verse always live me by. Like the pretty flowers, my delicate demeanor reflects an inner sensitive beauty. My view in life as a child, constantly unveils the simplicity and charm out of life's complications. In this increasingly confusing world, I always made clear what is essential. I show what I see with my heart and can be real and matters more than what i viIsible to my eyes.

I am called AYEEH to some, I am usually quiet, except for my playful moments and those times when I would stress some thoughts. I am not standout. In fact, I am plain and there has always been earthshaking about what I do and how I converses. This ordinariness of me, exudes dignity, simplicity, quietness and a little confidence being in my own. Even a midst life's pressures, I maintain calmness that speaks of an inner strength. I speak with no slogans, My gentle, simple, quiet and subtle way of life is my motto. Very direct in words, and a no nonsense person, truly an example of simplicity.

Patience is a virtue I possess, although there are times my firmness makes me an intolerant of complacency. I never waste time nor allow others to make me waste time. Oh, yes! I have limitations. I am unstable, nasty and beneath that firmness is a certain stubborness. I also have this air of snobbishness, borne more out of minding my own than out of false pride.

A book symbolizes my life. Not just because I am a book reader but also my life is an open book to many.

MY TIME LOG

This is the first page of my career book MY TIME LOG...

ON MONDAY,
when I think of you,
I palpitate with glee.

COME TUESDAY,
how I wonder if you ever think of me;

BY WEDNESDAY,
you are in my thoughts while doing errands little,

AND THURSDAY,
I often think of you while munching peanut brittle.

ON FRIDAY,
I think of you before I get too busy,

AND SATURDAY,
all this thinking of you starts to make me dizzy!

ON SUNDAY,
keeping you in mind
seems the best thing I can do...

This time log was given to me by my bestfriend whom I had a crush with, he gave me a card with those messages inside.

MY CAREER BOOK

My career book is humbly made for special people who in the long run had reside and contributed part of their lives in my very being. This is a simple tribute to all of my loveones as it can be coz it brings such plain, day to day thoughts on love, friendship, family, career, experiences, values, time, achievements, hopes and fears. This little achievement made me a real person. This career book was made thru my effort way back 2002. I will be posting some of the content of this career book if I got more time.

Actually, this is the reason why I come up with my blog's title MY LIFE'S LITTLE SECRETS... upon review of my career book I come to realize that it's also a good idea sharing some of it in my blog. A publisher friend already talked to me if she can publish it in REX but I am still thinking about it because it has some language which cannot be read by younger ones and I am still updating some of the contents this year 2008.

This career book was made handwritten and there are drawings in it, so I am going to scan some of it to upload it here. I hope I can be an inspiration through this one...

IF I WERE...

Just this morning upon posting here in my blog, it reminds me of things I wanna be, let me tell ;

If I were the President, I would work to bring peace and justice to my country (Philippines). I would clamp down on corruption and make sure that everyone obeyed the law. Even if something was not on my own best interest politically, I would do it if it is for the best thing for the people.

If I were a billionaire, I would use part of my money to take care of my family, but I would use most of it to help other people. Education, poverty, the environment, physical handicaps, diseases...and of course my high school alma mater, THE SISTERS OF MARY... these are all problems that I would devote my wealth to find solutions for or improvements to. Succeeding in any one of these areas, or even making them a little better, would be worth more than any amount of money.

If I were genuinely honest with myself, I guess that I would admit that if I had a great deal of power or money, I'd probably use it as selfishly as most other How about you folks? what would you do if you were....?

ALL ABOUT LOVE

I just want to share some definitions and interesting mind-buggling ( did I spell it correctly?hope so) ideas about LOVE.

1. Love does not hurt. Physical and/or emotional abuse are not a part of love.

2. Love is not manipulative, it should not be used to get others to do what you want. And you should never give in to demands based on the "You would do it if you loved me!" tactic.

3. Love is an intense feeling of caring for another person. It can take many different forms (romantic, social, familial) but it is always about caring.

4. It is very easy to confuse lust for love. The true measure of romantic love is commitment and trust, not physical attraction.

5. Sex is not love. Love is not sex. Sex can be a part of romantic love but it is never mandatory.

6. Romantic love can and often fades. When it goes, there is always no reason at all. When somebody falls out of love with you it does not reflect upon your value as a person or your desirability.

7. Love should make you feel happy, secure and appreciated.

You see it is possible to feel romantic love for more that one person at a given time. Just think; if it is possible for you to love both of your parents at the same time, why would it be impossible to feel romantic love for two people at once? Don't beat yourself up emotionally if you find yourself in this unhappy situation. But be sure to remain single and be open and honest with all parties about your feelings and confusion.

HAIZ, TOO GOOD TO BE TRUE...LOVING IS FEELING HAPPY AND SECURE FINANCIALLY....:)

SPEAK THE TRUTH

There's an adage that says " HONESTY IS THE BEST POLICY" but as I see it there are too few policyholders. Politicians say, " I really care for the people..."hmmm. No comment about that. Double speak. A nice new art form of twisting the truth and watering down its meaning. This is the fad of today. That's why we call adultery" having an affair". The world can invent new an nice-sounding words to sugarcoat unrighteousness, but God will call it a SIN. We should always speak what is true and pleasing to hear to other people. We must guard our thoughts, because our minds are like streams, maybe so broad that they are shallow.

I want all the people to speak the truth.
Politicians specifically.

I want all the people to speak the truth.
Even ME.

I want all the poeple to speak the truth.
Religious organizations frankly.

I want all the people to speak the truth.
Even the smallest unit of our society.

I want all the people to speak the truth.
Especially the young people.

Once in a lifetime I am offering myself to speak the truth, for it is the real wealth.

PEACE

This summary is not available. Please click here to view the post.

MY OTHER LIVES

I wonder if reincarnation is real. Did I have another life some other time? Was I one of the first Filipino in the time of Tabon Man...Negrito, Indones, and Malay?Maybe...Could I have discovered a new world with Columbus? Maybe I was Columbus himself, or Napoleon, or Cleopatra! Maybe I was once a great scholar or an artist or a rich merchant (how I wish) A mass murderer? Perhaps in all of my previous lives I was just an ordinary person, a farmer or a servant.

Have I ever been a monk? a mother? Did I live with a non-human life? I wonder what it would be like to be a fish or a plant. Maybe I even live on some other planet. If only there were some way of remembering all these experiences so I could use them in the future,in other exotic existence to come.

I just wonder... is there really such reincarnation?

WHAT I LOVE AND WHAT I HATE

All of us go through our lives with strong likes and dislikes. We all have a "wish list" of things we would like to do or have, and a "dish list" of things we never want. I bet that you agree with me with the lists I have below:

WISH LIST
1. Have many friends.
2. Make some money.
3. Get ahead of others.
4. Eat delicious foods.
5. Wear designer clothes and top-brand sneakers
6. Get more attention from others
7. Inherit money from my parents.
8. Have the latest mobile phone and laptop
9. Be famous
10. Be an actress (wish ko lang!)

DISH LIST
1. Getting up early in the morning.
2. Listening to your nagging parents
3. Reading boring books
4. Exercise
5. Seeing others succeed when you don't.
6. Brushing my teeth after every meal.
7. Breaking old habits and developing new skills.

Can you see, I have a lot of wish lists...few with dish lists...hehehehe! I really have to get more money among others....

BE A FRIEND

IT'S EASY TO TELL WHO YOUR REAL FRIENDS ARE. THEY ARE THE ONES WHO STAB YOU WHILE YOU ARE LOOKING. AS IRON SHARPENS IRON, A FRIEND SHARPENS A FRIEND...

Apart from marriage, friendship is one of life's most lasting and rewarding commitments. It is based on more than one promises. Its deep connectons have to do with mutual respect, common experiences and love. IN our ighly fluid ulture, friendships sometimes fall prey to the countless transitions in our lives. That is when commitment comes into play. And that's why friends are people with whom we dare to be yourself. Your soul can be naked with them. They ask you to put on nothing, only to be what you are. When you are with your friends, you feel like the prisoner fels who has been declared innocent. You do not have to be on your guard. YOu can say what you think as long as you believe in it.

Friends or our friends I say, understand those contradictions in your nature that lead others to misjudge you. With them you breath freely. YOu can be up-front with your little vanities and envies and hates and vicious sparks, with your meanness little streaks of meanness and absurdities.

Our friends are like fire which purges to the bone. They take you wholesale. You can weep with them, sing with them, laugh with them and pray with them. Through it all--- and underneath ---they see, know ad love you. What is a friend then? Just one, be a friend.

I am glad I have friends. They've been with me all these years. We've laughed together, dined, attended mass. No man is designed to be alone. We have to be a friend first before we can have friends.

THREE LITTLE WORDS...

Around 4 a.m. today (so early, huh!) I snail a book of Francis J.Kong and got inspired with his entitled book, THREE LITTLE WORDS. This book talks about the 3 L's ,...LIFE, LOVE, AND LAUGH. On his little words about LAUGH it caught my attention and couldn't stop from reading it due to a wonderful, touching and humurous materials which was sent to him thru email. He said that he got one that tickled his funny bone. It got something to do with the English language. He says that the English language is a crazy language and these are the reasons why:
There is no egg in eggplant, nor ham in hamburger; neither apple nor pine in pineapple. English muffins weren't invented in England or French fries in France. Sweetmeats are candies while sweetbreads, which aren't sweet, are meat.
We take English for granted. But if we explore its paradoxes, we find that quicksand can work slowly, boxing rings are square and a guinea pig is neither from Guinea nor is it a pig.
And why is it that writers write but fingers don't fing, grocers don't groce and hammers don't ham? If the plural of tooth is teeth, why isn't the plural of booth beeth? One goose, two geese. So one moose, two meese? hehehehe. One index, two indeces? Gets a little confusing, isn't it?
Doesn't it seem crazy that you can make amends but not one amend, that you comb through annals of history but not a single annal? If you have a bunch of odds and ends and get rid of all but one of them, what do you call it?
If teachers taught, why don't preachers praught? If a vegetarian ate vegetables, what does humanitarian eat? If you wrote a letter, perhaps you bote your tongue? (haiz, really confusing?)
Sometimes I think all the English speakers should be committed to an asylum for the verbally insane. In what language do people recite at a play and play at a recital? Ship by truck and send cargo by ship? Have noses that run and feet that smell? Park on driveways and drive on parkways?
How can a slim chance and a fat chance be the same, while a wise man and wise guy are opposites? How can overlook and oversee be opposites, while quite a lot and quite a few are alike? HOw can the weather be hot as hell one day and cold as hell another?
Have you noticed that we talk about a certain things only when they are absent? Have you ever seen a horseful carriage or a strapful gown? It's a horseless carriage and a strapless gown. Met a sung hero or experienced requited love? Have you ever run ino someone who was combobulated, gruntled, ruly or peccable? And where are all those people who are spring chickens or whould actually hurt a fly?
You have to marvel at the unique lunacy of a languagein which your house can burn up as it burns down, in which you fill i9n a from by filling it out and in which an alarm clock goes off by going on.
So, English was invented by people, not computers , and it reflects the creativity of the human race, (which of course, isn't a race at all). That is why when the stars are out, they are visible, but when the lights are out, they are invisible. And why, when I wind up my watch , I start it, but when I wind up this talk, I end it.
I stop reading for a moment and then sigh...yeah Francis KOng is true about English language craziness...but there are principles for that which brings effective teaching for business and living. I think I should have to start knowing some English words principles...

A WALK TO REMEMBER...

I was in the midst of confusion yesterday when I saw a lame along streets that I seldom walk. I was very upset when one man approached the lame person and hit him around his face...( I was frightened too!) I suddenly walk too fast so the man who hit him would not see me. I was trembling and having a mixed up emotions because I found myself in front of the man I hated to see... in front of his face, the exact words that I uttered was " please don't hit me I will give you my bag!" The man smiled and hurriedly took my favorite bag and run away. I once again experience the same thing when I withdraw money from the bank and took my money straight from my hands...I went home with a teary eyes and just pray that, hoping that the man will be enlightened of what he is doing. Maybe God will shower him the light he needs and the strength to overcome his weaknesses...I just remember that thing that it was a WALK TO REMEMBER...
